Having trouble thinking of traits for a character? Try basing some of them off the people you know in real life! That might help make the writing process easier, as well as create a more realistic character!

This short story for last week’s prompt was written by The Opal Griffin.

Run. That was all the man could do. Run for his life down what seemed to be the endless corridors of the space station Nebula 1. Something was chasing him, a shadow from his past. A creature. A demon. He could hear it, scratching against the walls, getting closer and closer. The man ran into a reinforced room, slamming the door behind him and locking it. He could hear the creature slam into the door, growling like an angry tiger. The man backed up and pressed himself into a corner in the room. The demon clawed and scratched on the door in an attempt to get in. The beast was relentless.

“Let me in….you need to face this…” hissed the demon.

“Leave me alone! Just go away!” the man screamed, fear evident in his voice.

The demon laughed a deep, hearty laugh, “Don’t tell me you don’t remember me…your best friend…? The one that had that ‘unfortunate accident’?”

The man’s eyes went wide. It was then he remembered. He remembered him firing the gun and his friend’s body hitting the floor. He also remembered his last words. “I will end you for this…” At first, the man thought it was only a last few words, something to scare him and keep him up at night. There was no way he could follow up on those words right? Well, at least that’s what he thought. Now there was a demon outside the door claiming to be his old friend!

“I-I killed you…you shouldn’t be here!”

The demon laughed again, “I told you I’d end you for what you did ‘old friend’. This door won’t hold me back forever….”

The door looked like it was beginning to be overtaken by a black substance, causing it to slowly dissolve. The man tried to look for some way, any way to escape. There was none.

“Just leave me alone!! Go away!”

The door dissolved more and more, seeping away. The man could see the demon’s eyes on the other side of the door, burning and full of hatred. Frantically the man ran around looking for an exit other than the dissolving door. However it was all in vain. The door had fallen, and there stood the demon, glaring at him. He came closer and closer, “Time to end this…’old friend’…”

The man closed his eyes, accepting his fate as the demon was upon him.

Remember when back in the day

You hung out with your friends doing nothing

Playing outside as if there was no end.

Remember when you had to be in the house

At the crack of night or mom would come out and it wasn’t a pretty sight…

Times where great back when

Now times are different from then…

Remember When!
