Octavia E. Butler…

was a science fiction author.  Butler began hanging out at the library after the death of her father and enjoyed reading and started writing as an outlet.  She sold some of her first stories in the 70’s and was able to become a full-time writer.  She taught workshops as well.  Butler was the recipient of the Hugo and Nebula Award.  She was also the first science fiction writer to receive the MacArthur Fellowship.

Butler died at the young age of 58.  Some of her works include;  Kindred, Patternist, Bloodchild, Xenogenesis Trilogy and The Parable Series.  Butler was a noted science fiction writer.
