5 Steps to help write great dialogue:

1. Know your character’s voice and let the dialogue flow
*a. Study your characters
*b. Write them a resume

2. Show instead of telling
*a. John opened the door. (Tell)
*b. The creek of the door startled John, as he opened it. (Show)

3. Place your audience inside the story

4. Have conflict. Don’t make everyone have the same thoughts, opinions or dialect.

5. Punctuate correctly
*a. It makes your novel look more professional.
*b. Use quotation marks before and after the character’s words
*c. Use a comma to set off he said/she said
